PokerRoom.Com Shuts Its Doors

Here’s another casualty of that horrid piece of legislation called the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act. PokerRoom.Com, considered one of the first-ever online poker rooms is closing down for good. Yes, you heard it right. Effective Tuesday, April 14, PokerRoom will cease to exist and its poker functionalities will be disabled. PokerRoom.com players will have the option to cash out their chips or transfer over to bwin where they can avail of special bonuses for doing so.

Bad Beat Jackpot Tables: To Play or Not to Play

It’s difficult to resist the lure of the bad beat jackpot tables. After all, we’re talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars—or even close to a million dollars in pot money. If you are the “lucky” recipient of the bad beat, you will win 50% of the pot while 25% goes to the player who won the bad beat hand. The remaining percentage is then divided equally amongst the other players on the table (although usually, this computation is off because the poker room rakes off a percentage from the pot). Tempting? Most definitely. BUT is it worth it? Probably not.

‘Wrasse’ Wins PokerStars SCOOP $10,300 H.O.R.S.E. Event

The PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) is attracting avid poker players in droves. Despite Event # 7’s steep entrance fee, 80 entrants forked over the $10,300 buy-in for a game of H.O.R.S.E; ensuring that the $750,000 guaranteed prize pool was not only met but was hiked to $800,000. In a tough field of online phenoms and poker pros, Wrasse came out on top to win the $260,000 first place prize.

When to Shove It—or Some Insights on Short-Stacked Play

Here’s a question, “At the short-stack, when do you push all-in?” The answer differs for every player. I personally know a lot of poker players who will hang around, searching for elusive Pocket Rockets and Pocket Kings until they are left to a single chip. Others subscribe to the 10 Big Blind rule, shoving all their chips in the middle as soon as they reach that limit.

When at the Felt, Don’t Be Too Consistent

There is one thing that a lot of poker players do wrong—even some of the more advanced players. What is it? It’s playing too consistently. To become a truly profitable poker player, you need to change your game a bit. If you play your A-K the same way every single time,

Dwan Tilts During ‘durrr Challenge’; Antonius Takes Lead

You’ve got to love the ‘durrr Challenge.” After taking down four huge pots and posting a $250,000 lead over Patrik Antonius, Tom “Durrr” Dwan suddenly found himself in trouble after Antonius went on a rush during the second half of the match. After the dust cleared and with Antonius now ahead in the Challenge by $23,467, Dwan called it a night stating that he has gone on tilt.
