Mitchell Ousted Four Spots From Final Table

2010 Irish Open winner James Mitchell seemed destined for a spot at the final table with his solid play over the last two days but he finally fizzled out in 12th place.

Mitchell was playing from the short stack and shoved ace-seven into Noel Gaens’ ace-jack.

Former chip leader Cyril Andre also hit the rail on Day 5 when his lost an all-important race with pocket fives to Remi Castaignon’s ace-five suited.

The final table begins at noon tomorrow. Here’s a look at the final-table chip counts:

1. Remi Castaignon – 9,900,000
2. Walid Bou Habib – 3,835,000
3. Enrico Rudelitz – 2,690,000
4. Noel Gaens – 1,720,000
5. Joseph El Khoury – 1,710,000
6. Robert Romeo – 1,440,000
7. Franck Kalfon – 1,195,000
8. Jeffrey Hakim – 895,000

Castaignon Leads Final 8 at EPT Deauville, YoungSupremacy Lurking

Frenchman Remi Castaignon holds the overwhelming chip lead heading into the final table of EPT Deauville.

Castaignon dominated Day 5 of the contest and saw his stack swell to a staggering 9.9 million after starting with 1.9 million. That’s nearly 50% of the chips left in play.

Walid Bou Habib is Castaignon’s closest opponent but he’s a distant second with 3.8 million chips.

There are no big-name pros in the final eight but skilled Lebanese online pro Jeff “YoungSupremacy” Hakim is looking to make some noise at his first EPT final table.

Unfortunately for Hakim he will be working from the short stack with 895,000 chips.

Hakim won’t be the only Lebanese player at the final table as both Habib and Joseph El Khoury hail from the country.

The final table is certainly an international affair with two Belgians, two Frenchman and one German.

It took roughly 13 hours to go from 23 players on Day 5 to the final table of eight players.

IveyPoker Buys LeggoPoker, Plans to Launch Ivey League

IveyPoker announced the acquisition of community-based poker training site LeggoPoker.com, plus plans for a new poker product offering called Ivey League.

Over the months since IveyPoker launched they’ve signed no less than 28 poker pros but did little to indicate what the site would actually do.

The answer to that question is now more clear, however, as IveyPoker explains that LeggoPoker will serve as the foundation for a new subscription-based poker teaching site.

“In my opinion, LeggoPoker is one of the best teaching sites on the market,” said Phil Ivey.

“They are a great match with IveyPoker and together we will offer a top-notch educational poker destination in Ivey League.”

The subscription-based strategy service has been modeled to pick up where IveyPoker’s soon-to-launch free social and mobile poker game leaves off with aspiring players’ poker educations.

LeggoPoker coaches Aaron Jones, Dan Smith and Andrew Lichtenberger will join Team IveyPoker and continue teaching poker strategy via the new Ivey League.

To elaborate on the new acquisition Ivey sat down with LeggoPoker’s Aaron Jones.

WPT Season XI to Air on FOX Sports Feb. 24

The new season of the World Poker Tour hits TV screens later this month with 33 hour-long episodes airing weekly on Fox Sports Networks.

The highest-rated poker show on FSN for the past two seasons, World Poker Tour is continuing to build on recent innovations.

”Viewers have responded very positively to the changes we’ve made in the show over the past two seasons,” said WPT President Adam Pliska.

“This year, we’re continuing to push the envelope with even more compelling improvements that complement what is turning out to be a record-breaking season with some of the greatest poker moments we’ve seen in the WPT’s television history.”

Fans can rest easy. The Royal Flush Girls are returning to television.

“We’re not content to rest on past accomplishments,” said WPT CEO Steve Heller.

“We are continually refining the World Poker Tour program and developing new ways to provide our viewers with the most compelling and entertaining poker show possible.”

New episodes of the World Poker Tour will air Sundays at 8pm and 11pm local time on FOX Sports Networks*

Matt “ch0ppy” Kay Comes Third in Sunday Million

Canadian live and online pro Matt “ch0ppy” Kay won the Sunday Million in 2007 for over $200k but was forced to settle for third and $121k yesterday.

Kay is currently ranked number three in the world for online tournaments.

7,584 players battled it out in the Million this week, fighting for part of the $1,516,800 prize pool.

There was no talk of a deal with Australian petesgotaces defeating Finland’s gypsymagi820 to close out the tournament.

Other notables to finish in the money include Chris “Moorman1” Moorman (296th) and Naoya “nkeyno” Kihara who posted the deepest run from a member of Team PokerStars Online.

Japan’s only WSOP bracelet winner Kaoya Kihara also cashed in this weekend.

Here are the final-table results for this week’s Sunday Million:
