A Little Bit of History
January 22, 2009
The Metro finally has a blog! What’s a better way to get up-to-date information about our favorite card room? Regular updates, strategy discussions, news and rumors (!), and even random rants and raves will be found here. There is just too much going on in The Metro Card Club that people should know all about it!
First, a little bit of history about how poker blogs shaped our Philippine poker community during its early development. Several years ago, around late 2004, a Poker blog appeared during a time when Poker wasn’t a household word yet, and almost no one knew how to play. It was called Pokerfilipinas. For those who do not know, it was Nick Galan, now president of The Metro Card Club, who started this blog. Others soon followed suit, with players new to the game excited to share their experiences with the small community that would be the roots of what we have today. There was That State of Mind, Manila Grind, Camp Hold’em, Poker Pond, 11finger, Final Table Donkey, and more. Forums like Poker Manila also helped shape things to come. In short, Poker blogs and the online community played a huge role in developing our thriving and successful poker community of today.
Today, Poker is everyone’s favorite pastime. Everyone knows how to play, from your officemate to you aunt to your grandma. And what better way to keep it rolling than to have this blog for The Metro, which everyone knows is the only real card room with a TRUE passion for the game. Hopefully, I won’t be the only one updating this blog, as I will welcome contributors who want to write about their rants and raves and experiences at The Metro.
Well, that’s it for now! See you at the tables!
