Frankenberger Takes WPT Season IX Player of the Year

September 22, 2011

The WPT Championship was the last chance for players on the World Poker Tour to rack up a few more POY points before the end of the season.

When the tournament began Andy Frankenberger led his nearest competition by 100 points. Frankenberger was eliminated on Day 4, giving two players a chance at surpassing him in the POY race.

Shannon Shorr and Sam El Sayed both had a shot at becoming Player of the Year, and would need a fourth-place or better finish to do it.

Shorr was eliminated in 9th, and Sayed in 8th, however, making Frankenberger’s victory official.

Frankenberger’s season was highlighted by a win at the Legends of Poker main event at the Bike, a final table at Festa al Lago and a deep finish in the Five Diamond Classic. Frankenberger earned close to $900,000 for those three results.
