Phil “The Unabomber” Laak

Phil Laak was born September 8, 1972 in Dublin, Ireland. In his early life Phil and his family moved to the United States and settled down in Wellesley, Massachusetts.
Most of us recognize Phil Laak for his extravagant appearances at the televised World Poker Tour shows. He is also known by the nick name Unabomber, based on the sweatshirt he is wearing – which he got from poker professional Gus Hansen. This name has been used lightly due to the reference of a former terrorist.
Some people have a hard time dealing with Phil. He is constantly acting and provoking the other players while facing difficult situations. Some say that he adds color to the show while others say he’s degrading the world of poker. Either way, Phil is a skilled poker player who has scored a considerable amount of money throughout his short poker career.
In February 2004, Phil beat the competition at the World Poker Tour Invitational, which also turned out to be his first win. Phil has two other major WPT appearances at the final table.
In 2005, Phil Laak finished second to Johnny Chan in the World Series of Poker $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’em event. Laak has also defeated Ram “Crazy Horse” Vaswani in the William Hill Poker Grand Prix, which earned him a total of £150,000 for claiming the first place.
Today, Phil lives in San Francisco, California with his poker-playing girlfriend and movie star, Jennifer Tilly. Jennifer has appeared in Liar Liar, the Doors, Monsters, Inc. and Stuart Little.
