April 8, 2009
The PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) is attracting avid poker players in droves. Despite Event # 7’s steep entrance fee, 80 entrants forked over the $10,300 buy-in for a game of H.O.R.S.E; ensuring that the $750,000 guaranteed prize pool was not only met but was hiked to $800,000. In a tough field of online phenoms and poker pros, Wrasse came out on top to win the $260,000 first place prize.
It was a thrilling battle for the final table as only eight players would be paid off. Those who just missed the final table included bubble boy Eugene “myrabbifoo” Katchalov, Justin “Boosted J” Smith in 10th and James “Andy McLEOD” Obst who finished in 12th.
It was Pusteblume who exited the final table first in a game of 1,600/3,200 Hold-Em. Raynee bet out and Pusteblume re-raised and was called. The flop was Qh-7c-7d. Raynee checked and Pusteblume pushed all-in with his Ah-Kh. Unfortunately for him, Raynee had As-7s for trips. The turn and river were no help and Pusteblume goes home with $32,000 for eighth place.
Xianggangdao was the next one to go in a game of 2,500/5,000 stud hi-lo when Raynee hit a seven-high straight with a low of 6-5-4-3-A. Xianggangdao won $36,000 for seventh place. What is 7×6 was eliminated next earning $44,000 for sixth place.
It was then Josh “nitbuster” Arieh’s turn to bust out in 1,250/2,500 Hold-em. The poker pro was short-stacked and he pushed his chips in with Qd-Jd. He was called by Raynee and Alexander “skalexjung” Jung. The board played out Jc-7s-Js-8d-As. Although Arieh hit trips, Raynee had 10s-4s giving him a flush. Arieh won $60,000 for fifth place.
Alexander “skalexjung” Jung busted out next during 3,000/6,000/600 Razz courtesy of Wrasse. Jung took home $80,000 for his fourth place finish. Although Fabrizio “SixthSenSe19″ Gonzalez was short-stacked, he kept outdrawing Raynee. In the end, it was Raynee who exited in third place with $120,000 courtesy of Gonzales.
Wrasse entered heads-up with 275,546 in chips versus Fabrizio “SixthSenSe19″ Gonzalez’s 124,454. Wrasse never looked back and on the final hand, playing 5,000 / 10,000 Hold-em, Wrasse raised and was re-raised by Gonzales. Wrasse called to see the Qd-10h-3c flop. Gonzales pushed all-in and was called by Wrasse who only had Kd-4s versus Gonzales’ Ad-8h. Unfortunately for Gonzales, the 9h at the turn gave Wrasse a straight draw. The Jh on the river gave Wrasse the winning hand and $260,000. Gonzales took home $168,000 for his runner-up finish.
