Antonius Leads Dwan by Almost Half a Million in ‘durrr Challenge’

May 6, 2009

Has Tom “durrr” Dwan bitten off more than he can chew? Although Patrik Antonius is now up by $488,133 after booking a $328,406 win, it really is too early to tell as there are thousands of hands left to play. After their most recent $200/400 Heads-Up Pot-Limit Omaha match, the two professionals have booked only a total of 13,246 of the required 50,000 hands.

Dwan and Antonius played on four simultaneous tables on their most recent encounter. Unfortunately for Dwan, it was the Patrik Antonius show as the former was forced to rebuy several times. The session started ominously for Dwan as Antonius claimed two pots in the six figures almost immediately. Antonius took down a massive $152,800 pot and another $150,949.

In the latter hand, Antonius raised to $1,200 and was re-raised by Dwan to $3,600. Antonius raised the stakes further to $6,000 and was called. Dwan bet out $8,600 on a Jh-8s-2h flop and was called. The turn was 5c and Dwan bet $29,200. Antonius pushed all-in for $60,875 and was called by Dwan who was holding Qc-Qh-9d-8d. Antonius was ahead with two pair holding As-10s-8h-5h. The Kd on the river was no help to Dwan.

To his credit, Dwan won the session’s largest pot. Antonius who was holding Ks-Kc-Qs-Kh bet $1,200 and was raised by Dwan to $3,600 holding Ac-As-5c-5h. Antonius re-raised to $6,000 and Dwan re-raised it to $18,000 more and was called. The flop was Qc-6s-6d. Dwan bet $14,200 and was called. The turn was a 10s. Dwan bet $54,898 and Antonius called. The river was a 4h and Dwan’s aces held up allowing him to win $174,197.

Despite Dwan’s big pot takedown, Antonius was clearly the winner in this session. To make matters worse, Dwan kept getting disconnected from the Internet forcing him to finally call it quits. Antonius agreed, admitting that he was very tired.
