Durrr Challenge Update: Patrik Antonius Leads by $61,412

April 16, 2009

Tom “durrr” Dwan emerged as a big winner in a previous session, walking away with $160,000 in winnings. Unfortunately for Dwan, Patrik Antonius has bounced back in the latest session. After the dust cleared and with 11,949 of the 50,000 hands completed, Antonius now leads by $61,412.

The two players started playing at around 8:30PM EST at the $200/400 PLO tables. Both players bought in for $80,000 and for half an hour, exchanged small pots between them. That was about to change. Antonius bet out $1,200 and was re-raised by Dwan to $3,600. Antonius re-raised to $6,000 and was once again put over the top by Dwan who bet $18,000. Antonius called to see the 10h-8h-4d. Dwan bet $36,000 and Antonius pushed all-in for $53,493. Dwan called with Jc-10c-9s-8s for top two pair and a straight draw. Antonius had a draw of his own with 7c-6h-5d-3c. The 6c on the turn gave Antonius his straight and Ah on the river didn’t help Dwan’s cause. Antonius raked in a $142,986 pot.

On a different hand, Dwan pushed all-in with top two pair and gutshot straight draw. Unfortunately for Dwan, he got called by Antonius who ended up hitting a full house on the river to take a $154,771 pot. Soon after, Antonius raised to $1,200 bet and was three-bet by Dwan to $3,600. Antonius called to see the flop of Jc-8h-3h. Dwan bet $4,800 and was called. Dwan checked the 5s on the turn and Antonius bet $16,800. Dwan raised to $67,200 and Antonius called. The river was a 4s. Dwan bet his remaining $22,733 stack and was called by Antonius who was holding an eight-high straight with 7s-6h-4h-2c. Dwan who was holding Qs-Qh-10h-9h found himself losing a $196,655 pot.

Dwan was forced to rebuy twice more as Antonius’ luck continued to hold. He was able to squeeze off a $154,675 pot from Antonius later in the game but unfortunately for Dwan, he didn’t get much more leverage as the Finn called off the game after logging 966 hands.
