Dwan Recovers at ‘durrrr Challenge’ But Still $391,704 Down

May 18, 2009

It isn’t over for Tom “durrr” Dwan. Although Patrik Antonius created a sizable lead in the “durrr Challenge” after posting a big win, Dwan has recovered in the last 310-hand session by finishing ahead by $96,358. After 13,556 hands, Antonius still holds the lead by a respectable $391,704.

The session started bad for Dwan after Antonius grabbed a $142,397 pot only a few minutes into the game. Antonius raised to $1,200 and was re-raised by $3,600. Antonius put in $6,000 more and was called. Dwan check-raised the 8h-5c-2h flop to $42,000 after Antonius bet the initial $10,000. Antonius re-raised further to $74,000 and Dwan called for his remaining $23,199 stack. Antonius was ahead with Kc-8s-7c-5s for two pair while Dwan had Qc-Wh-9h06c for a flush draw and overpair. The 4s on the turn and the 9s on the river was no help for Dwan and the Finn took the session’s second-largest pot.

Despite Antonius’ early start, it was clearly Dwan’s night. Dwan took down a $120,000 pot holding As-Ac-10s-3h on a Js-7c-6s-9d-Ks board. In another hand, Dwan took down the session’s largest pot. Dwan bet $1,200 and Antonius raised to $3,600 and was called. After the 9c-7h-3s, Antonius bet $6,000 and was called. The turn was Qs. Antonius checked and Dwan bet $15,600 and was called. The river was the 9d. Antonius checked and Dwan bet out $50,400. Antonius called but mucked his cards upon seeing Dwan’s 10s-9s-4d-2d for a set of nines. Dwan took down the $144,382 pot.

Surprisingly, Dwan did not ride the rush and instead opted to quit after playing 61 minutes. He opted instead to play Gus Hansen at the $500/1000 Heads-Up Pot Limit Omaha tables.

There are over 36,000 hands to go in the “durrr Challenge” so if you want to railbird, you very well still have a chance. Open an account Full Tilt poker to watch the “durrr Challenge” yourself.

One Response to “Dwan Recovers at ‘durrrr Challenge’ But Still $391,704 Down

  1. I love the playing style of The Great Dane. He thinks #out of# the box and surprises his opponent with trash hands that turned to gold – #at least# for him :-). I laugh every time I notice the faces of his opponent when he shows them his cards.
