Jeffrey Lisandro Named 2009 WSOP Player of the Year
July 13, 2009

This is the second time Jeffrey Lisandro vied for WSOP Player of the Year. In 2007, he succumbed in a tight race for the title versus Tom “DonkeyBomber” Schneider. The main difference in 2007 was that the Main Event did not count towards Player of the Year standings.
Lisandro had 355 points going into the Main Event. Wahlbeck was the only player with a chance of grabbing the prestigious title from Lisandro as he was close behind with 342 points. Unfortunately for Whalbeck, the dream was short lived as he found himself out of content during the 2009 WSOP Main Event.
So what does Lisandro stand to gain aside from the fancy title for winning Player of the Year? Well, no one knows for sure yet as every year, the award is customized for the winner. After Lisandro and Wahlbeck, it is Phil Ivey who came in third place at the Player of the Year standings with 242 points. Vitaly Lunkin (240) came in fourth and Greg Mueller (240) came in fifth. Daniel Negreanu came in ninth place with 195 points while Roland De Wolfe rounded up the top 10 with 195 points as well.
Last year, it was Erick Lindgren who was crowned WSOP Player of the Year after winning a bracelet and cashing in five times. Barry Greenstein finished in second place just short of overcoming Lindgren. Jacobo Fernandez came in third after an amazing seven cashes and David Benyamine finished fourth.
