The $1.2 Million Bad Beat Jackpot in Merge Gaming Network Has Been Won

February 16, 2009

Someone on the Merge Gaming Network is thanking his lucky stars for getting an awful beat. Late Friday night, RUGGIO’s jack-high straight flush lost to AELANI’s king-high straight flush. As a result, RUGGIO won $417,396 while AELANI also got part of the action winning $208,698. Seven other players were awarded money from the pot.

RUGGIO was holding 7-8 hearts when he hit the jackpot. AELANI was dealt K-Q of hearts. The flop was 3d-9h-Jh. AELANI bet $4 and was called by Ruggio. The turn was a Qc. AELANI bet out $8 and was snap-called by RUGGIO. The river was he lucky 10h, giving both players a straight flush. AELANI bet out $20 and RUGGIO immediately countered with a $35 raise. AELANI then pushed all of his chips in the middle and was naturally called.

This is the first time the Bad Beat Jackpot has been hit since its debut in Carbon Poker mid last year. The Bad Beat Jackpot awards 35% to the player with the losing hand, 17.5% to the winner and 17.5% to the other players dealt in the hand. The Merge Gaming Network took 10%. What happens to the remaining 20%? It funds the brand new jackpot which now stands to almost $250,000.

The Bad Beat Jackpot isn’t easy to win. A person must lose to at least quad sevens to qualify. Both winning and losing hands must use the players’ hole cards; which means that if the losing hand is quads, the player must hold a pocket pair. To make it even more difficult, at least four players must be dealt and the hand must go to showdown with at least two players.

Other sites in the Merge Gaming Network are IronDuke, Golden Arch Poker, TexasHoldEm.com, Jam Poker, Spin32 Poker, Rumble Poker, Reefer Poker, G2G Poker and ACED. Players from the U.S. can play on the Merge Gaming Network although the network has stopped taking new customers from Kentucky due to pending litigation.
