DENIM ONG CUP A HUGE SUCCESS

What started off as a viral thread in Pokermanila.com that got more views and comments than any other thread in the 3-year old poker forum culminated in a very successful tournament hosted by The Metro last Tuesday, March 31.
To those who don’t know yet, “Denim Ong” is a pseudonym for a good friend and veteran player of The Metro’s high stakes cash games and tournaments. His “myth” in the poker forums started off as a prank, but it spread like wildfire and is now a certified part of the poker community.
Tuesday’s tournament was hosted by The Metro especially for this phenomenon. With a P1,100 buy-in and P100,000 guaranteed, 89 players came to try and win so they can get a chance to go heads-up against the legendary Denim Ong, beating the record 81 players made by the Metro75 tourny for a non-major poker tournament. The rebuy and addon ballooned the pot to P160,000, giving the players something to fight for!
Denim Ong showed off his legendary poker skills, cracking aces in one big pot and making it to the final table. He eventually bowed out “on purpose” in 9th place, giving way for others to have a chance to win. Alan Escano, most recent Metro75 winner and veteran tournament player, bested the 89 players field and got the honor of playing Denim Heads-up for an additional P10,000. This time, Denim Ong did not let his fans down and handily beat Alan in the match.
