MIKKO CASTILLO WINS THE METRO P2M TOURNAMENT, P450,000.
October 20, 2009
After three days of intense and grueling poker action, it came down to a final table that was a mix of veteran players and up-and-coming poker players locked in a battle for the top prize of P450,000. The last 9 players in this male dominated competition also featured two women poker players as well. First ones to bow out were Fersie Maglilong and Rowena Erquiaga, taking home 26,000 and 34,000 respectively. They outlasted almost 800 players, a great feat in itself.

The 21 yr old Metro Veteran player Martin Gonzales, a crowd favorite, busted out in 8th place after his K-3 went heads up against K-J on a King-high flop. Dak Salazar, JR dela Cruz, and Jesus Soriano soon followed him out of the tournament. Another Veteran poker player Rainier Salazar,a lawyer who joined the tournament on the last minute, went out in 4th place for a 90,000 peso payday.
After Jameszel Ortiz took 3rd place for 140,000, it was down to two great poker players to battle it out in a heads up match that showed how far we have come in our local poker scene. Eventually, POKERMANILA.COM representative Alan Baretto’s dream run for another 1st place win for his organization (pokermanila representatives took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in the previously held Metro Hi-5) ended when he lost to Mikko Castillo. He took home P238,000 for his effort, part of which will go to charity as he promised.
Congratulations to Mikko Castillo for winning The Metro Anniversary Primer tournament and P450,000! Now it is time to get ready for the next Metro Tournament, the TEN MILLION PESO GUARANTEED tournament in December!
