Metro Schedule

R.I.P. Anthony Sy, Most loyal and hard-working Metro staff member.

April 23, 2010

Anthony Sy became our first ever employee of the year. NEVER absent or late, no complaints, no problems. He eventually became a chip runner, and also dabbled in being a dealer when we needed extra hands. His life got much better, he worked hard, earned a good living, and was even eventually able to send his kids to private schools. EVERYONE loved this guy. Staff, players, management, VIP’s. He was a model employee, a great friend, a great guy.
Today, on his way home from work, he was shot by robbers who wanted his motorcycle. With a bullet wound in his stomach, he managed to escape with his bike and make it about a block away from his house, before collapsing. He was brought to ZARATE MEDICAL CLINIC in las pinas, where they said they could not help him and that they had to transfer to Perpetual Help Hospital. They would not let them leave though, without paying P2,500. So they had to leave a cellphone there before leaving. When they got to Perpetual, they were not expected, so another hour or so was wasted with him lying in the ER in agony. ZARATE CLINIC failed to follow protocol and inform the Hospital about the transfer.

He was still able to make it to the O.R. when i arrived at the hospital, although they made him wait until he had the P20,000 DP needed to start operation. We had to call red cross , who helped out by sending much needed blood via ambulance all the way from Manila. They operated for 7 hours. He flat-lined, but was resuscitated. His innards, as described by the doctors, became like… “giniling” or ground meat. The 9mm bullet ricocheted multiple times inside his stomach before exiting his back. They removed his insides and restitched his veins and arteries before putting it back inside.. He was still alive. We had hoped he would make it.

Before he was sent to the ICU, i saw him one last time, unconscious. Eventually, he was declared brain dead, and his heart would stop soon after, doctors said. It was up to the family if they wanted to keep resuscitating him, but the inevitable came, and he finally gave up the good fight. He’s left with a wife and 4 kids, all below 10 years old. His hospital bill was P283,000, which Neil and the company footed. I would have gladly given all my money for this guy.

To all those whose lives this simple guy touched, come to The Metro tomorrow, where we will be having something for his honor and memory. The Metro75 will become an unlimited rebuy and addon tournament, with all the rebuys and addons going to his family. P1,000 will go a long way. No cap, just come and play.

RIP Anthony “Barok”Sy.
