METRO Main Event Thursday Satellite Gets P18,000 Overlay!

The first Satellite for the METRO MAIN EVENT concluded yesterday, with 30 players participating in the P500 buy-in guaranteed seat tournament. Yes the pot was only P15,000, but true to it’s word, The Metro gave a seat worth P33,000 to the eventual winner Mae Peters. That’s a total of P18,000 added value!
The players slugged it out with reckless abandon knowing the tournament is only going to award 1 seat, basically making it a winner-take-all format. People were basically taking their 60-40′s and coinflips and going for broke to either take an early chip lead or bust. The final table was very competitive, but as luck would have it, some big river beats sealed the deal for most of the players. Heads up came and it was Mae Peters, wife of veteran high stakes pro Sean Peters, against Miguel Cuneta, a seasoned home-game rounder and small stakes cash game player. The chip stacks were almost even with about a 55/45 advantage for Miguel, they made a deal to split the win for a 16,500 payday each (not so bad for a 500 buy -in!), they went on and played for about an hour more for the title.
Mae Peters ended up winning when Miguel made a move pre-flop with Q-8 suited, and was called by Mae with A-6. No help came for the underdog and Mae won. Mae admitted to not being used to heads-up matches, and she also said that she was just happy that she made it that deep in the tournament, but her win just early this year of an all-ladies tournament shows she’ was just being modest. And of course it doesn’t hurt to have a poker pro for a husband too!
